Ingwe conceeds two goals in the season opener

AFC Leopards started the hunt for the Kenya Premier League title on a loosing note when it conceeded two goals at the mercy of Western Stima at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega on Saturday 14th February 2009. The two goals were scored in both halves with the first goal coming in the 2nd minute when Stima's Mark Sirengo capitalized on Fundi's poor judgement to shake Leopards net. But it was Leopards players lack of committment throughout the game that cost them the game that should have been an easy win for the visitors had they displayed the same enthusiasm witnessed at the aborted Nairobi City match two weeks ago. It was a shame that the average Western Stima dictated the pace as the visibly tired Leopards squad fumbled throughout the match with no clear sign of a winning formula. The midfield was out of place as the defence experimented on non working ideas. Save for Sebestian Muchera who occassionally tried to wiggle out of the tight marking accorded to him by three Stima defenders, the rest of the striking force was dead and posed no danger to Stima's goalkeeper who was tested only once. Stima's second goal in the dying minutes of second half was a mistake of the goalkeeper who had all the time to reach for the ball only to fumble around it enabling a Stima striker to slot it in the net with ease. The lose was a major dissapointment to the tens of thousands of Ingwe diehard fans who had thronged the Bukhungu Stadium to witness their team make a come back to top flight soccer. AFC leopards head coach Gilbert Selebwa asked for patience among fans promising better results in the forth coming matches. AFC meets Bandari FC on Sunday 22nd February at Coca Cola National Stadium formally known as Nyayo Stadium. The match begins at 3PM.(Posted on 15th Feb 2009)
