Ingwe bags its first premier league point, but fans still want more

AFC Leopards bagged its first first Premier League point on Sunday 22nd February at Coca Cola National Stadium when they drew one all with Bandari FC from Mombasa at a well attended match. AFC's early goal came in the 21st minute when its flamboyant striker Dennis Mukaisi gave a powerful header to beat Bandari's goalkeeper after minutes of preasure from the home team. Infact AFC should have scored more than three goals in the one sided first half had Mukaisi and Farid utilised the more than 4 clear chances they had to increase Ingwe's lead. AFC's party of first three points was to be spoiled in the dying mintes of the second half by Bandari's substitute who made good use of AFC goalkeeper's poor judgment to net in the equaliser. But it was the passionate Ingwe fans demonstration at the end of the match that stole the media attention with all cameras clicking to their faces. The angry fans were protesting at the "not so convincing" performance of the technical bench headed by head coach Gilbert Selebwa. According to the fans, the technical bench is in dire need of a reshuffle for Ingwe to totally reclaim its lost glory. But the fiery head coach Selebwa in a quick rejoinder pleaded for patience amongst Ingwe's fans saying that his side is young and needs time to jell and get a proper feel of top flight soccer. "We have played only two complete matches, lost one and drawn one" he wondered aloud to justify his cause. With 28 matches out of 30 still pending, the head coach is confident of giving Ingwe's fans positive results in subsquent matches. (posted on 23rd Feb 2009)
