It's Matano the Magician

The appointment of Robert Matano as the new coach of AFC Leopards is spot-on and a step in the right direction. The former AFC player is the right description the highly indisciplined youthful side needed to turn around the dwindling fortunes of this great club. Having guided reigning KPL champions Sofapaka to glory in the first attempt in top flight, Matano will put to use his template to deliver results under difficult circumstances. Largely known and accepted as a no nonsense tactician, Robert will find it easy to reign in elements of laziness and indiscpline from the onset and make the best of what he has. Unlike his predecessor Chris Makokha who was a lame duck coach, Matano brings on board ambition, swagger and urgency to deliver results. His "research" prowess aside, the former international also has what it takes to inspire and motivate his rookie side to self believe and positive aggressiveness. It is therefore hoped that the management will give him all the desired corporation to deliver acceptable results. We also urge all the supporters of the club to accord him due respect and rally behind him for a better future. Matano was appointed yesterday by the executive committee of the club together with former Tusker coach Tino Kitavi as his assistant and former Harambee Stars tactician Razak Ziwa as goal keeper trainer. The new technical team takes over from the Chris Makokha led unit that has been shown the door after a spell of poor performance. AFC meets a stubborn KCB on Sunday at City Stadium in a must win match. (posted on 22nd at 10am by Raba D'Cruz)
