Fresh from silencing bitter arch rivals Gor Mahia 1-0 in a record breaking derby of Kenya to complete the KPL's first leg at a respectable position 6, AFC Leopards grabbed its first silverware on Tuesday after piping Congo United from Coast 1-0 to clinch the Madaraka Day cup. Witnessed by Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Ingwe found the back of the net in the last quarter of the match through Congolese import Imbem Itubu. But Ingwe should blame themselves for not winning by a bigger margin after the frontline squandered several scoring chances infront on a visibly angered home crowd. Whereas the attackers showed luck of urgency or purpose, the midfield displayed mediocrisy and lethargy with the defence only achieving satisfatory guarding grades. Although Leopards has managed 21 points in 15 matches, the head coach Chris Makokha will need to beef up his inconsistent squad to repeat the feat in the second leg. It will serve the team more good to bring on board at least two more serious and experienced strikers to finish the job. The veteran coach must also beef up his midfield and defence with at least two new charges each. Instead of feigning excuses of his team not having jelled enough, Makokha must get back to business and instil displine in his squad to continue commanding respect. As the leage takes a one month mid season break, Makokha needs to aggressively go to the market and recruit players who can ensure pole position for Ingwe at the end of the season.(posted on 2/6/10 at 10am by Ingwe Reporter)
