Fundraiser nets Kshs 2.7 Million

AFC Leopards raised a total of Kshs 2.7 million in the long awaited fundraiser in a Nairobi Hotel on Wednesday evening presided over by the national assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende. Cash payment amounted to Kshs 1.6 million with the balance of Kshs 1.1 million being pledges and cheque payments. The chief guest Hon Marende donated Kshs 1 million being his personal contribution plus contributions from fellow parliamentarians including Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Hon Eugene Wamalwa, DPM Musalia Mudavadi and Hon Cyrus Jirongo, all who did not attend the meeting.Among the MPs who attended included Hon Bonny Khalwale and Hon Were who contributed Kshs 20,000 each. The chairman's speech was however a big dissappointment as he (Julius Ochiel) to the disbelieve of those in attendance, chose to open old wounds and castigate the former office for all sorts of evil, instead of uniting all supporters of the club. He did not even recognize some of the former officials who were present, but instead blamed them for the woes facing the club.Even after awashing the media with the impending launch of new merchandise, nothing was unveilled leaving supporters to wonder aloud if such arrangement had been made.Club Secretary Robert  Asembo saved the situation albeit bilatedly after many people had left by atleast recognizing the importance and presence of over 40 branches that had collectively contributed a total of Kshs 45,000. Nairobi CBD branch, stood out and caught the SG's eye with their branded pollo jerseys with an extra generous contribution of Kshs 60,000 to take a leading role in branch matters. CBD branch chairman Mike Meso said that his branch is determined to change the way business in done in Leopards by putting their money where their mouths are. "This is just the beginning of great things CBD branch will do for this great club," he said. (posted on 15/4/10 at 11am by Ingwe Reporter)
