
AFC Leopards raised close to Kshs 1 million in the just concluded CAF Cup preliminary first round match against Ethiopia's Banks at Nyayo Stadium. A total of Kshs 940,000 was raised from more than 10,000 tickets sold during the encounter that saw the home team wallop the visitors 3-1 in an exciting and drama filled match. Club chairman Julius Ochiel confirmed to the website that the AFC took home Kshs 540,000 after 400,000 deductions to pay for various services and parties including 20% to the stadium, police, security, ticketing and clerks. This is a record in Kenya in the recent times and a clear indicator of the popularity of Kenya's most successful club. Ochiel revealed that it took the club Kshs 1.3 million to host the visitors, including booking the 25 team and 4 match officials in a three star hotel . AFC also paid for the return air tickets of the four officials from Burundi. Estimating the cost of the return match in Addis in two weeks time to Kshs 1.5 million, the chairman urged all Ingwe supporters and wellwishers to donate funds to the club by making deposits to the bank account no. 01134120269800, Cooperative Bank, Moi Avenue Nairobi. The budget will cover the purchase of 25 return tickets to Addis, home camp and contingency.
