AFC makes juicy signings

It's back to business as AFC Leopards completes its second day of serious training after new year's celebration with a big announcement of juicy signings. It's official that Kenya's most celebrated club has bagged the signatures of former Nairobi City Stars utility player Basweti, Thika United's danger man Kepha Aswani, Gideon Ogude formerly of Agro chemicals to bolster the defence and International Goalkeeper Lawrence Webo from Rwanda. Others who have joined Ingwe are former school hits Martin Imbalabala (defence from Vihiga High) and Moses Okumu (striker) also a Vihiga high alumni. Coach Nick Yakhama confirmed the above signings a day after shaking off the tuft wars that had threatened to derail the team's preparation. He said that he will retain the majority of his squad that helped him lift last year's FKL cup. " My boys have jelled well and only needed to beef up the squad with a few players in all departmenets," he said. He disclosed that he will add one or two experienced players in the midfield to complete the seasons signings. The training went on uninterrupted at Ikulu grounds as the detractors who had staged a sham parallel training on Monday were cautioned not to report to the grounds again. "I gave them a letter warning them to keep off from the grounds which is reserved for AFC Leopards and not busybodies," said an Ikulu grounds manager. All the AFC Leopards players were present and were addressed after the training with chairman Alex Magelo who assured them that the worst is behind them.(posted on 12/01/2010)
