Magelo, Nick Yakhama and Players Carry the Day
True to the press release, the Interim Management Board(IMB) guided the AFC Leopards team under the supervision of coach Nick Yakhama through the first training after new year at Ikulu grounds. That happened in the full eyes of the media, loyal Ingwe supporters and heavy security that had been mobilized by the other group for we dont know what. The players all stuck to their guns of not recognizing the imposters and trained only under Nick Yakhama. It was a relieve to true supporters to see the five players including captain Biketi and dependable Oyando who had been "suspended" by the other group train with the team. Nick Yakhama showed alot of leadership as he remained calm as politics played sway at the grounds. Melodrama ensured ealier on when the cops hired by the other group tried to stop Yakhama from conducting the session, but thank God wisdom prevailed and the cops allowed the session to proceed. Realizing that not even a single player was on their side, the disgruntled group led by Asembo and Ochiel instructed a group of unknown trialists hand picked by their technical director Gilbert Selebwa from Eastlands to do a few runs in the opposite pitch as if on trial. Then emerged a white man, whom uncorfirmed reports say he runs a makeshift academy in a Nairobi Slum, to lead the recruits in the trials. We hear he is the other group's new coach. But the climax of the day was when the defacto chairman of AFC Leopards Alex Magelo, flanked by Secretary Richard Ekhalie and treasurer Duncan Angode arrived amidist ullulations and cheers from excited supporters and AFC players. In his usual boisterous brovado, Magelo took on the mic to address a battery of journalist who had camped by waiting for his key note address. He did not mince his words, terming the imposters as "shameless predators and prophets of doom". "Am in charge of the Interim Management Board and warn enemies of this great club to keep off," he said. He called on Kenya Anticorruption squad to move in the registrar of societies and investigate the fraud that went on during the sham illegitimate elections. "How can an election take place on Sunday evening and the certificate is ready the following Monday morning" he wondered alloud.Following the successful resumption of training, Nick Yakhama plans to strengthen his squad by bringing on board a few new signings to beef all departments in preparations for the super cup and CAF cup. "We are firmly in charge and up to the task," he said after the training.(posted on 11/01/2010 by Ingwe reporter)
