Ingwe Nite Like no Other

Ever heard of a saying that goes like "Kosa Uchekwe?" Yes it made sense over the weekend if you missed out at an Ingwe Nite like no other. I am talking about the extra ordinary extravaganza that went down at West Life club in Kakamega. It was different, exciting and fulfilling for the diehard Ingwe supporters who packed the venue from as early as 5PM. But the real fan begun when a contigent of AFC travelling Club members started checking in from the Agro Chemical match in Muhoroni where Ingwe had thumped the hosts 2-0. As more than 20 cars that had ferried the boisterous passionate fans from Nairobi and beyond pulled up at the parking, bewildered and receptive local Ingwe fans ullulated to welcome the entourage as the sounds of Nzenze band rent the air. The summit of the celebration was when the FKL champions, the AFC Leopards playing and technical units checked in with the cup to boot. To welcome the team was the adapted Ingwe anthem "mulongo" belted out by Msindi backed by Imara band. It was a sight to behold as the supporters freely mingled with the players who were equally excited to meet their fervent fans that have helped them step up the game. "This is a dream come true," shouted a female fan as she posed for photos with the players turned instant celebrities. The head coach Nick Yakhama thanked the fans for the encouragment and promised not to disappoint next season. As the captain Zadock Shaaban lifted the FKL cup to signal victory, the rest of the squad broke into song and dance with the anthem razing the venue down. The two Congolese imports Imbem and Tumba stole the show by doing a Zairwa jig with goalkeeper Victor Omondi in toe. To avoid being laughed at, dare not miss the next Ingwe Nite. "posted on 23/11/09"
