AFC shares spoils with Thika United

AFC Leopards suspect goalkeeping cost the former glamour club two points as the visiting Thika United snatched a late equaliser to share the spoils with Ingwe. For the third time in a row keeper Victor Omondi has gifted oponents in dubious and suspect goalkeeping blunders costing the club crucial points in this sunset days of the competitive Kenya Premier League. Take for example the Thika match where an obvious harmless shot by substitute Barrack Odhiambo saw Omondi cool it down and amazingly let the ball slide into the net. The second half equaliser seemed to kill the spirit of the Leopards players who had laboured throughout the game to guard their one goal lead that came their way in the first ten minutes. It was defender Humphrey Oyando who had blasted in the match opener after receiving a fantastic pass from Denis Mukaisi.Thika United fought relentlessly for the equaliser to no avail til keeper Omondi gifted them in the 70th minute when everything looked set for Ingwe to bag the maximum three points. Leopards coach Nick Yakhama had brought in veteran Charles Okwemba in the 55th minute to replace Robert Indimuli and later on Jarson Likono to replace Congolese import Imbem Itubu. The draw however has maintained Leopards chances of avoiding relegation as the club still maintains a four and seven point gap between the last two relegation bound teams in the standing. To be sure of staying in top flight, Ingwe will need to win at least one more game out of the remaining three. AFC plays fellow relegation threated Red Berets at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday 31st Oct at 3PM. (report on 25th Oct)
