Swords Drawn

Swords are drawn for Saturday the 26th much anticipated and hyped match between AFC Leopards and Mathare United. Both teams need the win with equal zeal with the former hungry to kiss the relegation threat a goodbye and the latter eager to swing back into title contention. But it is the bitter rivalry between the two clubs that is already generating fireworks before the encounter at Nyayo Stadium. The rivalry stems from an ugly encounter between the teams' fans a couple of years ago when AFC prevailed in a cup finals.Coupled with a common believe amongst Ingwe's passionate fans that part of Mathare United's top management was responsible for the club's controversial relegation three years ago, the atmosphere at Nyayo is poised to be magnetic. Francis Xavier, AFC Leopards match captain said that his side is equal to the task and will for sure collect the three points."We will hammer the valley boys mercilessly," said Xavier who turned up in the contraversial cup final. A confident Leopards coach Nick Yakhama also said that his side has gained self confidence from the two nill win against Ulinzi last week and will continue to register wins in upcoming matches starting with the Mathare match. Meanwhile Supporters of Leopards are urged to utilize the SMS campaign to donate Ksahs 50 to the club on the registered short code 2325 on both Safaricom and Zain networks. One may send as many texts as possible to the short code with only his or her name as the message. (report on 25th Sep)
