AFC Leopards' Office Beefed Up
The much anticipated AFC Leopards AGM, regraded to a special meeting, took place peacefully on Sunday the 9th August 2009 at Railways club where the acting Secretary General Richard Ekhalie was confirmed in the position by more than 150 registered and paid up members who attended. The meeting also filled several dormant offices including Vice chairman which went to Nairobi Deputy mayor George Aladwa. Other positions filled are Assistant Secretary-Charles Bukeko (Papa Shirandula), Committee members-Maurice Amahwa (Mombasa branch), Hasan Nasoor, Naphtally Ambetsa, Said Mahboob and Joe Serenge (Kakamega Mayor). Julius Ochiel Sikalo and Josphat "controller" Murila were also co-opted into the committee. The meeting that was graced by former chairman and Member of Parliament Alfred Sambu was the first one to effect the 1,000 registration fee for ordinary members and Kshs 5,000 for Super members. Chairman Alex Magelo, Treasurer Duncan Angode, Organising Secretary Timothy Lilumbi and Assistant Treasurer Hussein Babu retained their seats. Both Hon Sambu and Alex Ole Magelo emphasized on the unity factor whipping out members and fans to rally behind the current office for prosperity. "Lets desist from witch-hunting and petty politics and support the current office fully if we wish well for Ingwe" said Sambu. Magelo lashed out at a few insiders whom he said are out to sabotage the club for whichever reasons."I warn them to keep off the playing unit and stop peddling malicious lies about my office" he warned. Speaker after speaker praised the office for offering steady leadership and driving back the club to top flight soccer after two years in the cold. "We are proud to be associated with the club despite the outcome" reiterated a jubilant member clad in a Leopards replica jersey.He said it's a great milestone for members to pay Kshs 1,000 annual fee, a far cry from the previous Kshs 20 that has been the norm for many decades.(report on 10th August 2009)
