AFC falls to Bandari FC
AFC Leopards' dream start to the KPL's second leg campaign was rattled when Bandari FC ran away with the maximum three points after registering a shock two nill win. The drama filled match took place at Bandari's home ground, the Mombasa Municipal Stadium on Saturday 4th July 2009. Bandari's two goals were scored in the first half thanks to Kevin Shigogodi's miscalculations at the left back wing. The larger blame could be pointed to the former coach's poor judgment by employing a defensive 5-3-2 formation when Leopards actually needed to attack. The formation parked more players at the back denying the strikers supply of balls to score goals. It was only after half time interventions that the coach made changes that saw the team start taking the ball to the opponents goal. The coach should also be blamed for poor fielding as he posted some players to unfamiliar territories, besides leaving out some of the best players in the starting lineup only to bring them as second half susbtitute when the damage had already been done. The former coach resigned immediately after the match and has been since replaced with Nick Yahama as the new coach with immediate effect. Nick will work with national team assistant coach Twahir Muhiddin who has been confirmed as the technical director. (posted on 6th July 2009)
