AFC beats Nyeri Stima to advance in FK Cup
AFC Leopards rediscovered its winning ways on Sunday to beat Nyeri Stima FC one nil in round one of FK Cup. Showcasing the recently recruited players, Ingwe charmed its bositerous Isukuti dancing fans who had thronged the hosting Kabete Technical ground with superb display and unequaled class. The star of the match was the Congolese national Imbem Tumbu who at position nine terrorised the visitors defence throughout the match. No wonder he netted Ingwe's loan goal at the begining of the second half to send the bewildered fans into a frenzy. The presence of AFC's long serving captain Charles Okwemba after a six months' absence was conspicuosly felt as he stabilised the midfield combining well with his mate Francis Xavier who showed a renewed sense of urgency. Coach Manoah's second half substitute of James Kombo aka Junior for Congolese Laurent and youthful signing Likono from Kakamega proved quite clever as the duo injected in fresh live and speed. In fact Nyeri Stima was lucky to have conceded only one goal as the revamped Ingwe controlled possession throughout the match. The match was watched by a packed crowd donning AFC replica jerseys of white and blue hoops." This is the kind of team AFC deserves" said one ardent trumphet blowing fan who blew his tool of trade throughout the match. AFC travels to Mombasa on 4th July to take on Bandari FC in the KPL premier league competition. "We will build on the win to register another win in Mombasa" said coach Edward Manoah with a sigh of relieve. (posted on 29th June 2009)
