AFC Under-13 registers a win in first friendly

AFC Leopards Under-13 prevailed at the first friendly match by pipping visiting the "Catalans" one goal to nothing at the Ikulu grounds on Saturday 6th June 2009. The only goal was netted in the 18th minute by AFC's prolific & roving midfielder Felix in a superb solo move that saw the visitor's defence tear apart. Enjoying a match possession of over 60%, AFC Under-13 lads can only blame themselves for failing to score more goals as they missed many good chances in both halves. AFC's coach Aswani used the friendly match to study his side's weakness and was beaming with confidence at the end of the match having made a number of valuable observations. " I will surely rectify our mistakes and hope to turn this team into one of the most effective under 13 in Kenya and beyond," he said. AFC's under-13 side has been in existence for the past four weeks with 18 teens between the ages of 8 and 13 having enrolled with the majority being talented kids on schorlarships from the sprawling slums of Kibera.The team trains every Saturday from 9am till noon at Ikulu grounds. The program also admits paying students keen on soccer development at a monthly fee of Kshs 5,000 per teen in the said age bracket.
