AFC fundraiser an anticlimax
AFC Leopards much hyped fundraiser cum 45th anniversary celebrations managed to net in a meagre Kshs 70,000 out of the targeted Kshs 3 million. With only a handful paying guests with the majority being performing artistes, the superbly organised Ingwe Night extravaganza only affirmed one thing; that the country's most successful and most suported club needs to explore other means of raising cash apart from public fundraisings and donations from well wishers. A part from the Western Kenya MPs giving the fundraiser a wide berth, the much vocal and critical Ingwe fans and members were conspicuosly absent leaving the occassion to a handful of organising committee members led by Charles Bukeko. But where the rest of the public missed out was well compensated by a number of former AFC players who took their position at the event to be counted as the true sons of Ingwe. It was therefore satisying to see the legendary JJ Masiga doing a jig with Josphat Murila in toe. Others who made it included Tony Lidonde, Peter Lichungu, Reginald Asibwa, Wanyama, Muhati just but to mention a few. The entertaintment was also superb with Phonetex Band of Mukangala fame keeping the guests on toes throughout the night. Other bands that showcased were Ogidi, Lisanga band, Stono Musica and Eshienyu ne Shienyu Isukuti troupe from Kibera.
