AFC holds Thika United away

AFC Leopards shared a point each with Thika United away in a nil all encounter that saw Ingwe dictate the pace of the match during the entire first half and part of the second half. The combined force of AFC's prolific strike Mugaisi and the Nigerian Ekene on the right forward wing distabilised Thika's defence from the onset but failed to take advantage of the situation to net in a winner. At the back, AFC's defence looked more composed with Collins Kisuyu at the left back overlapping at ease to test Thika's goalkeeper on several occassions. Harambee Stars trialist Sebastian Muchera who started on the bench came in in the second half to replace Roy Syamba at position ten and caused alot of havoc for the lethargic Thika defence that was caught napping most of the time. The best chance for Leopards came in the 72nd minute when Muchera volleyed in the air less than 10 metres away of the goal line. Thika United recovered during the last 15 minutes to shake up AFC's defence that had started wearing out. Leopards on-foam goalkeeper Teddy Okumba made two breath-taking saves to deny the homeside a winner in the dying minutes. The lack of goals in the pitch was compensated by plenty of action in the terracess with a capacity crowd of loyal Ingwe fans outdoing a sizeable number of Thika fans who had turned out to cheer their team. The Isukuti dancing and boaisterous Ingwe fans who had travelled all the way from Nairobi donning the now famous replica jerseys painted Thika blue and white. A visitor may have infact mistaken the game to be an AFC home as the passionate fans intimidated and silenced the shell shocked Thika fans who had no idea of how to cheer their team. With nine points in the bag, Ingwe heads to Chemelil on Saturday to faceoff Sugar millers.(posted on 18th May 2009)
