Coca Cola Stadium It Is
AFC Leopards finally has its way and the match between Ingwe and Mathare United will be played at Coca Cola Stadium on Saturday the 25th April at 3PM. But the decision will cost Ingwe live broadcas status and grants from SuperSport, if the threats issued by KPL's CEO Jack Oguda are anything to go with. AFC Leopards was not prepared to compromise its much cherished home advantage status by playing its home match at Kasarani on Sunday as had been suggested by KPL. The decision to abruptly switch Ingwe's tie raised ayebrows when an erroneous, self implicating and damanging email by KPL CEO to KPL Chairman Bob Munro leaked to AFC's Secretary General. In the email, Jack was telling his boss that AFC has "hit the nail in the coffin", and was soliciting for advise on how to handle the case at hand. The email was quickly interpreted by experts to mean that KPL leadership has all along been laying down traps for Ingwe to fall in and be condemned to oblivion. It must be noted that the same Bob Munro is the chairman of Mathare United and therefore shows serious conflict of interest if it's the same person being asked by Jack for advise on how to handle the AFC vs Mathare United matter. In a televised press conference on Wednesday, a visibly angry AFC Chairman Alex Ole Magelo blatantly told KPL CEO that AFC will not honour the Sunday match and will for sure turn up at the Original Coca cola venue on Saturday. "We are prepared to loose the SuperSport grant and live broadcast status if the same will be used to blackmail us and push us into a tight corner" he said. AFC, like other clubs, has received only Kshs 1.3 million out of the total sum 3 million grant from SuperSport. AFC's annual budget is Kshs 16 million. Bowing to preassure, KPL CEO allowed AFC's match to go on at Coca cola but without the SuperSport Cameras. He urges Ingwe passionate fans to turn up in large numbers to cheer their team.
